Unfortunately the weather this weekend was  not good, especially on the Saturday, heavy rain, so plans had to be changed.

3 games of football were played and again BBQ’s were arranged to feed these hungry players.

Time was taken off from football to visit Oxford, the sports shops in Oxford proved very popular.

A Visit to Novi Ligure, Northern Italy December 2007

We made a visit to Novi, we stayed in a hotel close to the Town Centre and were met there by our friends.

One of our contacts in Novi is Roberto, who is a Policeman n Novi.

During our visit there we were taken to the Police Headquarters and met with the Chief Police Officer of Novi.

We had an amazing meal while there, this was during their annual celebration of ‘La Dolci Terre’ The area is famous for Chocolate (and of course Gavi wine).  We were taken to a Restaurant in Novi where every course was with Chocolate.

– Chocolate Risotto, Ravioli dusted in Chocolate, Roast Beef & Polenta with Chocolate Sauce, Lemon Pudding with Chocolate dusting – a great experience

FOOTBALL IN NOVI LIGURE

NORTHERN ITALY

AUGUST 2007

6 boys accompanied by John Clutterbuck left for a weekend of football early on Friday morning, the 24th August.

On arrival in Genova they were met by Roberto and Tiziana and headed for Novi Ligure, a 45 minute drive from the airport.

When reaching Novi they went to the council offices to meet the President of the Football Club who was deputising for the Mayor.  They also met the Italian football boys and the parents who were hosting.

At 4.30 in the afternoon they went to the Main Football Stadium and watched the Novese lst team train.

The boys then went with their host families and John was taken to his hotel.

Dinner that night was in a local hotel that specialises in Pizza.  All the boys sat together and started to get to know each other.

Saturday they visited the Bicycle Museum and lunch in the restaurant attached to the Museum, this restaurant is an excellent restaurant, on previous visits to Novi we have enjoyed wonderful meals there.

The match was delayed from its 3pm Kick Off as it was very hot, the kick off was rescheduled to 4pm.  They mixed the Bicester boys with the Italian boys and made 3 teams, they played 2 games each.

A Presentation was arranged after the match when many photos were taken, it made the boys feel very special especially when they were presented with a huge trophy.

In the evening all the Bicester and Novi boys went out for a meal with the host families while John had a quite meal at Roberto’s favourite restaurant in Novi.

Sunday morning everyone went swimming at the large outdoor pool, a picnic lunch was taken .

In the afternoon they went to the Castle Tower and the tunnels underneath which lead to a villa on the outskirts of Novi.

At the Tower there was a re-enactment, with a cannon firing and food being cooked on a open fire for everyone.

In Novi that evening was a big Darby football match, Novese 1st Team.

Novese being the football club that welcomed our Bicester boys.  They have various age groups in this club and currently there are 350 players registered with them.

Our boys were given a great honour and were the Ball Boys for this important match together with the Italian boys that hosted, in front of over 2000 spectators.

Novese team won 1 -0.

Monday was time to leave and return to Bicester.  On arriving at Check-In at Genova Airport they had a lot of difficulty in getting the trophy checked in and being able to go on the plane.  With the help of Roberto a box was found and then the trophy was put in the hold.  For a time it did look like the Bicester Boys would have to return without their cup.

They headed home to Bicester all very enthusiastic about their weekend playing football in Italy.

OUR GRATEFUL THANKS TO THE NEWLY FORMED TWINNING COMMITTEE IN NOVI LIGURE AND TO THE NOVESE FOOTBALL CLUB FOR GIVING OUR BOYS SUCH A GREAT WEEKEND.

FOOTBALL  IN  POLAND

AUGUST 2007

The Bicester Boys that travelled to Poland were from 2 teams that played in last year’s Peter Flynn U14 Twinning Football Tournament.

Chesterton were the Winners with Launton as Runners-up.

Derek Kidd, manager of Launton and our Twinning Football Man not only arranged last year’s Peter Flynn but organised the boys to take part in Poland.  The Twinning arranged the visit with our friends in Poland.

John Clutterbuck, Derek Kidd, Chris Kidd, Andy Phipps, David Lloyd, John Aslett and a local 19 year old ref – Anthony Coggins stayed with the Bicester Boys.  They all stayed in dormitories above the Fire Station.

While travelling the men and the football players were dressed very smart, shirt, trousers and tie, as soon as they arrived and were able to change they were in their holiday gear as the weather was warm and sunny.

They went up to Mountain Zar to take in the scenery, then to the roof of the restaurant for Coke and Beer.  Some of the men and boys decided to walk, or was it run, down to the airfield.  They really knew they had muscles after that.

They were shown the planes and gliders.

In the evening they all met up for Pizza.

Friday morning a coach arrived to take them all on a tour of the area and surrounding villages, they even tried out some old traditional horns in an old log cabin.

After lunch the football started with a game against Miedzybrodzie Bialskie and  the Bicester team won.

In the evening there was a BBQ.

Saturday there was more games with in a Tournament in the Czernichow Commune Tournament.  There were 3 games our boys played in.  The tournament was part of a Fete where there was many stalls and activities.  During the presentation the local Folk Group played music and the boys soon noticed the pretty young girl singer with a wonderful smile.  Stanley, on the Double bass was also cheered by our boys as he was one of the local football players.

In the evening a Disco had been arranged.

Sunday brought more football, In the game Bicester lost but the home side had support from a higher power.  At the church service that morning the Priest asked the congregation to pray for a victory over Bicester, and we lost to Miedzybrodzie Bialskie.

The evening was spent at the Pizzeria.

Monday was the day to leave but first retail therapy in a shopping mall.  Then lunch, then to the airport.

A wonderful weekend with wonderful hospitality.

OUR THANKS TO THE FOOTBALL CLUB, THE TWINNING COMMITTEE OF CZERNICHOW AND EVERYONE WHO HELPED MAKE THIS WEEKEND SO GOOD.
